If you are still writing your WiFi password on a piece of paper and leaving it on the counter you are making it harder than it needs to be.
A WiFi QR code lets guests connect to your network by scanning a code. No typing, no squinting at a password that has a capital I and a lowercase l in it, no asking you to repeat it three times.
It takes about two minutes to set up and it works on every iPhone and Android made in the last five years.
How it works
You create a QR code that has your network name and password encoded in it. When someone scans it their phone asks if they want to join the network. They tap yes. Done.
The password itself never gets displayed. It is just encoded in the code. So you can put the QR code somewhere visible without worrying about everyone seeing your password.
Where to use it
- Airbnb: print it and put it in a frame on the nightstand. Guests love it.
- Restaurant or cafe: add it to your table cards or put a sign at the counter
- Office: stick it near the front desk for visitors
- Waiting room: doctors, salons, anywhere people sit and wait
One thing to know
WiFi QR codes are static by nature. The network name and password are baked in. If you change your WiFi password the code stops working and you will need a new one. That is fine, just something to keep in mind.
