Static and dynamic QR codes, the actual difference
Static QR code
The destination is baked directly into the black and white pattern. Scanning it always resolves to the exact same string.
You cannot change what the code does after printing. If the URL moves or the page comes down, every printed instance goes dead.
There is no way to count scans. The pattern skips your server entirely and sends the phone directly to the target.
Right choice when the payload will not change: a permanent WiFi network for a home, a static text note on a museum plaque, a personal vCard.
Dynamic QR code
The pattern encodes a short redirect URL you own. When the phone scans, the redirect resolves the current target from a database and sends the browser there.

Every scan passes through the redirect, so you get accurate scan analytics with counts, time of day, and device family for each code.

Making a QR code that scans reliably in the wild
A QR code is a photograph as far as a phone is concerned. It has to hold up under fluorescent lobby lighting, sunlight on an outdoor sign, and the compression a phone camera applies before the scan library sees it. Three things do most of the work.
Contrast. Dark modules on a light background is what scanning libraries are trained on. Inverting the colors, or using two mid tone colors with similar luminance, is where most scanning failures come from. Our generator flags a low contrast combination before you download.
Quiet zone. There should be a clear border around the code equal to at least four modules. Do not tuck the code into a photograph or an illustration. The quiet zone is what tells the scanner where the code starts and stops.
Size and distance. A useful rule is one centimeter of code size per ten centimeters of scanning distance. A business card code that is scanned from arm's length can be small. A code on a highway sign or a stadium screen has to be much larger than most people expect.
If you are not sure, print a test at the target size, tape it in the target location, and try to scan it from where a real user will be standing. If your phone hesitates, everyone else's phone will hesitate too.
Everything worth knowing about generating a QR code
Do I need to sign up to make a QR code?
No. You can generate and download a static PNG without an account. Creating a free account is what unlocks dynamic codes, saved edits to the destination, and scan analytics. Signup takes about twenty seconds and does not require a credit card.
What error correction level does the generator use?
We use error correction level H, the highest available, which can recover from up to 30 percent of the code being obscured. That is what lets us place a centered logo without breaking scanning. If your use case never involves logo overlay or damage, you can use lower levels for a slightly denser pattern, but the difference in scan reliability is usually not worth it.
How small can I print a QR code before it stops scanning?
The practical floor is about 2 centimeters on a side for arm's length scanning, and around 3 centimeters if the code holds a longer payload such as a vCard. Below that, phone auto focus starts to lose the pattern. Test in the actual environment. Ambient light and paper reflectivity affect the floor more than most people realize.
Why does a static code sometimes look denser than a dynamic one?
The pattern density scales with the length of the payload. A dynamic code encodes a short redirect URL, typically thirty or so characters. A static link code encodes the full destination URL, which is often much longer. The static version is denser and needs to be printed larger to scan as reliably as the dynamic version.
Can I put my logo in the center without breaking the code?
Yes, within limits. Error correction level H tolerates about 30 percent obscuration, so a logo that occupies up to about 25 percent of the code area is safe. Bigger than that and scans start failing on marginal cameras. The generator warns you if the logo box exceeds the safe zone.
Can I use the SVG file in Illustrator or InDesign?
Yes. The SVG is standard vector output. Drop it into Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, Canva, Affinity Designer, or any layout tool that accepts SVG. It scales to any print size without losing definition, which is why print vendors prefer it over PNG for large format work.
Do QR codes expire?
The pattern itself does not. A dynamic code depends on the redirect service staying live, so as long as your AQRHub account is active, the codes keep resolving. If a free tier account goes inactive for an extended period, we notify you before touching any codes. Static codes downloaded without an account are yours forever; there is nothing on our side to expire.
