Getting someone to follow you on Instagram in person is awkward. You spell out your handle, they search for it, find three accounts with similar names, and give up. Most people do not bother.
A QR code makes it one step. Scan, tap follow, done.
Ways to drive Instagram followers offline
There are a few common ways to get people to follow your Instagram when you meet them in person. Here is how they compare.
| Method | Effort for Them | Conversion | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| QR code on print | Very low | High | Any in-person touchpoint |
| Verbal ask | High (they have to search) | Low | One-on-one conversations |
| Link in bio or website | Medium | Medium | Online traffic only |
| Printed URL on materials | High (they have to type it) | Very low | Not recommended |
The QR code wins because it skips the searching, the spelling, and the typing. People open their camera, point it at the code, and land right on your profile.
How to get your Instagram profile link
Your Instagram profile URL follows a simple pattern: instagram.com/yourhandle. Replace "yourhandle" with your actual username. That is the link you will turn into a QR code.
To double check, open Instagram in a browser and go to your profile. The URL in the address bar is the one you want. Copy it.
Instagram also has a built-in QR code feature inside the app, but it is limited. You cannot customize the design, change the colors, or track scans. Creating your own QR code with AQRHub gives you full control over how it looks and lets you see how many people are scanning it.
Create the QR code
Go to AQRHub, create a Link QR code with your Instagram URL, and download it. Use SVG if you are printing. Use PNG if it is going on a screen or website.
Where to place your Instagram QR code
Put it anywhere you interact with people in person. The best placements are where someone is already standing still with a moment to spare.
Business cards. The back of the card is perfect. When someone gets your card, they can scan and follow you right away instead of putting the card in a drawer and forgetting about it.
Product packaging. If you ship products, include a small card or print the code right on the box. Customers who just bought from you are the most likely to want to see your content. Give them a reason: "Follow us for styling tips and new drops."
Storefront window. A clean sign at eye level with your QR code and a short message. People walking by can follow you before they even step inside. You are turning foot traffic into followers.
Receipts. Print the QR code at the bottom of every receipt. The customer already has their phone out to check the total. One extra scan and you have a new follower.
Flyers and event displays. If you set up at markets, pop-ups, or trade shows, put the QR code on your table sign or banner. People you talk to can follow you right there instead of saying "I will look you up later" and never doing it.
What to say next to your QR code
A QR code without context gets ignored. People need to know what happens when they scan it and why they should care. A few words next to the code makes all the difference.
Good examples:
"Follow us on Instagram for behind-the-scenes content." (specific, tells them what they get)
"Scan to follow. We post new arrivals every Friday." (gives them a reason to stay)
"Like what you see? Follow us for more." (works great on packaging or in-store displays)
What does not work: just the Instagram logo with no text, or "Follow us on social media" with no reason to do so. People need a small nudge. Tell them what kind of content you post or what they will get by following. Be specific.
If you can offer something in return, even better. "Follow us and DM us for 10% off your next order" turns the follow into a transaction where both sides win.
Use a dynamic QR code
If you ever change your Instagram handle, a dynamic QR code lets you update the destination without reprinting a single thing. You swap the URL in your AQRHub dashboard and every printed code keeps working.
This also means you can repoint the code to a different platform later. If you start a TikTok or move your audience to a new account, one change covers all your printed materials.
