QR Codes for Car Dealerships: How to Use Them on the Lot

Car buyers do a lot of research before they ever talk to a salesperson. They compare specs, check prices, and read reviews online. But when they show up at the lot, they are back to squinting at window stickers and waiting for someone to come out and help.

QR codes bridge that gap. A buyer walks the lot, scans a code on the windshield, and gets the full listing on their phone. Photos, specs, pricing, financing options. All without needing to track down a salesperson.

Here is how dealerships are using them.

Vehicle detail pages

This is the most obvious use. Stick a QR code on the window of every vehicle on the lot. When scanned, it links to the full listing page on your website with all the photos, specifications, features, and pricing.

This is especially useful after hours. A lot of buyers browse the lot on evenings and weekends when the showroom is closed. A QR code lets them pull up everything they need to know right there.

Dynamic QR codes are perfect for this because inventory changes constantly. When a car sells, update the link to point to a similar vehicle or your general inventory page. No need to reprint the sticker.

Financing calculator

A QR code next to the price that links to your financing calculator or payment estimator. Buyers want to know what the monthly payment would be before they walk into the dealership. Let them figure that out on the lot.

If you use a third-party tool like Capital One Auto Navigator or your own website's finance calculator, just link to that page.

Service department booking

A QR code in the service lane, on the cashier counter, or on the back of business cards that links to your online service scheduling page. Customers can book their next oil change or tire rotation before they even leave the lot.

Put one in the customer lounge too. People waiting for their car are already thinking about maintenance. Make it easy to schedule the next visit.

Trade-in value estimator

A QR code on the showroom floor or at the entrance that links to your trade-in estimator tool. Buyers thinking about trading in their current vehicle want a ballpark number before they start negotiating. KBB, Edmunds, or your dealership's own tool all work.

Window sticker replacement

Paper window stickers fade in the sun, get damaged by weather, and are hard to read from outside the car. A QR code sticker is small, durable, and links to a page that can show way more information than a paper sticker ever could. Video walkarounds, full feature lists, comparison tools.

You do not have to replace the Monroney sticker. Just add a QR code next to it that links to a richer experience.

Test drive booking

A QR code on the vehicle or nearby signage that links to a test drive request form. The buyer enters their name, phone number, and preferred time. Your sales team follows up. This works well for buyers who are browsing but not ready to talk to someone yet.

It also captures leads from after-hours visitors who would otherwise just drive away.

Customer reviews

A QR code at the sales desk or in the finance office that links to your Google review page. After a customer signs the papers and gets their keys, ask them to scan the code and leave a review. People are most likely to leave a positive review right after a good experience.

Put one in the service department too. Happy service customers are a great source of reviews.

Why dynamic codes matter for dealerships

Inventory turns over fast at a dealership. A car that is on the lot today could be sold tomorrow. If you use static QR codes, every sold vehicle means a dead link and a wasted sticker.

With dynamic QR codes, you update the destination URL from your dashboard. The physical sticker stays the same. Point it to a new vehicle, a "similar vehicles" page, or a "this one sold, check these out" page. AQRHub makes this easy to manage even across hundreds of vehicles.
